A Tea Satll is a Good Index of Life Standard in Dhaka

Tea Stall in Dhaka City
Tea stall (Chayer Dokan) is very common sight in Bangladesh. It is more familiar in Dhaka city. It is one of the most important places for day laborer, rickshaw puller, student, garments workers and for low income people. A little shop is a place surrounding with few chair furnished with kettle, bread, banana, filter water bottle etc. It is very common scenery of footpath of Dhaka city. In this time people from all profession like to drink tea in the tea stall.

Bangladeshi people learnt to drink tea from British people. British people like to drink tea. So during their ruling period many tea gardens have been built up in Sylhet district. Still now tea is one of the most exportable items in Bangladesh. Without export it has great local market nationwide in this country.
Once it was drunk in the restaurant.  But now it is sold in footpath of city area. What are the causes of building of tea stall in footpath? It is one of the bright examples of our economic status in the city area. Gradually people’s lives are being developing in many countries of the world. But what are happening in Bangladesh?

Worldwide people’s lives are being developing. Out looking of city area is a bright example of that development. Food style, shopping, clothing style, road, transportation, footpath, park, restaurants all are the major and key points to see the figure of development of a country.

Tea stall is the bright example of unemployment sign of the country. A lot of unemployment peoples are here. They have nothing to do. So, just investing little money they can build a tea stall in the city area. Though they have to pay bribe too for this business.

Why people drink tea in the footpath? The answer is very easy.. People have to pay taka 10 in the restaurant but just for taka 5 they can buy a cup of tea from footpath. In the tea stall people can buy ta (bread, banana, biscuit)too. Many restaurants do not sell ta.

Tea stall is not a place of drinking tea only. It is also very busy point during the lunch period. People like to eat easy and cheap food. So they eat bread and banana rather eating rice, meat and fish in the restaurant. For taking lunch in the middle class restaurant you have to pay taka 100-300. But just for taka 20-30 you can end your lunch event in the footpath.

How secure and healthy a tea stall? Everyday millions of people are eating and drinking in the footpath. The culture of eating in the footpath is a very common practice in the city of Dhaka.  A tea cup is used many times without proper cleaning.  A lot of doubt about quality of filter water too. A lot of low standard bakeries products are sold in the tea stall. How about the quality of those confectionery products?

There is no doubt that People are doing wrong or they are bound to that practice. Who will take care of it? As a conscious citizen I am worry about this practice in the capital city of Dhaka. It is time to study building up of excessive tea stall in the footpath.

Pros of Tea Stall- It is good income source of illiterate or little educated people. It is great money saving way of middle class people. It is fast and time savvy. It is great source of extra income of police force in the city of Bangladesh. It is a great index for measurement of city people’s life standard.

Cons of  Tea Stall- It is unhealthy. It is great threat of public health. It is making traffic jam in the footpath. It is a great mirror of government’s activities. A tea stall is a great threat for restaurant business.
