WHAT IS ISO FILE

An ISO file is also known as ISO Image. It is recognized by .iso extension. ISO file idea has come from ISO 9660 and ISO/IEC 13346 standard. This file allocation system is introduced by Geneva based International Standardization Organizaion(ISO).

The total contents of CD/DVD/BD can be represent in a single ISO file system. It is something like zip,cab or rar extension but it is stored in uncompressed format. An ISO image can be provided in a CD/DVD/BD using disk buring software like imgburn. Popular ISO burning programs are magicISO and power ISO.

CD-Audio file does not support ISO file. ISO image files are often used to distribute large programs over the Internet due to the fact that all of the program's files can be neatly contained as a single file - the ISO file.
7-Zip, Winzip are most used common compression or decompression software to open iso file to a folder.
